Todd Hirsch, Economist & Director, set the stage for #BTFAlberta with an insightful exploration of the drivers of disruption in today's economy. Here are the key takeaways from his presentation, "Navigating the Uncertain Economy of 2024": ➡️ Strategic Success: Hirsch emphasized that achieving success in turbulent times often requires a blend of grand gestures and consistent team support. While there are moments for bold moves, the consistent presence and support of leaders can be equally impactful for organizational resilience. ➡️ Preparation over Prediction: Rather than attempting to predict every twist and turn in the economic landscape, Hirsch advocated for a focus on preparedness. By developing robust contingency plans and adaptable strategies, businesses can effectively navigate uncertainties and mitigate risks. A big thank you to Bennett Jones for sponsoring this session! #btf #alberta #businessgrowth #economy

Thank you to The Business Transitions Forum for putting on an incredible day of learning, networking and story telling. It was an honour to share my entrepreneurial journey to a room of seasoned professionals who understand the triumphs and tribulations of starting, growing and exiting your business. Did you know that less than 1% of business sell for more than $0 🤔 Think about that for a moment… that means that most businesses close, liquidate or collapse without anything but a memory of their hard work. This is an important truth for anyone looking to go down the entrepreneurial journey. The first 3-5 years are tougher than you think; you will be tested financially, emotionally and spiritually but this is my advice: Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life the way most people won’t, so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t!! “You can’t fail if you don’t quit” 😅 A special thanks to Diana Noble and Wendy Muise for their mentorship, guidance and above all friendship during this pivotal time in my life 🩷 Don Montgomery, CBI Bob Nazer Erin Roddie Mark Stephenson and the entire The Business Transitions Forum team for all your hard work 🙏🏽

Reflecting on an incredible day at the The Business Transitions Forum in Calgary yesterday. From Todd Hirsch's always insightful outlook on the economy, Dania F.'s inspiring journey in a male-dominated world while building a world class team and Glenn Fawcett's perseverance in getting a deal done, each speaker brought invaluable perspectives to the table. A special nod to Wendy Muise for highlighting the invaluable role of accountants (and yes, they truly are amazing 😁 ). Sherif Gemayel's practical insights on growth through acquisition were eye-opening, while Allison Maher and Naim Ali's discussion on family business transition underscored the importance of open communication. And let's not forget Julieta Miranda's powerful message 'You can't fail if you don't quit.' Huge thanks to Kerri Riddle for joining me, and a shoutout to the entire #BTFAlberta team for organizing such an enriching event! Already looking forward to the next one. #BusinessTransitions #CalgaryForum #InspiringInsights

Matt Flynn's (Roynat Capital) keynote dove into the complexities of business transitions from a buyer's lens. Here's what we learned: 💼 EBITDA isn't one-size-fits-all. Understanding its nuances is crucial, as it holds different meanings for different stakeholders. 🤝 Guidance is key. Building a trustworthy team to provide honest feedback can streamline the transaction process and enhance outcomes. 🔍 Transparency is non-negotiable. Buyers value honesty, so being forthcoming with information and answering questions truthfully is paramount. 🤲 Humility pays off. Recognizing the distinction between personal and corporate goodwill and demonstrating humility in discussions can significantly influence buyer perceptions. #btf #alberta #businessgrowth #mergersandacquisitions
