Event Description:
The Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA) Standard on customer service is now law in Manitoba. Along with other requirements, this law requires that all businesses and organizations train all employees and volunteers who interact with the public. The Human Rights Code, the Accessibility for Manitobans Act and the Customer Service Standard will be reviewed in this session presented in collaboration with the World Trade Centre Winnipeg and Society for Manitobans with Disabilities. Registered participants will receive a certificate stating that they have attended the Accessible Customer Service Standard training. NOTE: Please feel free to bring a snack or brown bag lunch to make the most of this session. Attendees will learn the following: 1. Interacting and communicating with persons with disabilities facing barriers 2. Recognizing and respecting the various support that people with disabilities may use such as assistive devices, support person or service animal 3. Providing support to a person with a disability who is having difficulty accessing a product or service Note: Certificates will be provided to each participant Heather Hiscock is a Training Coordinator at the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Therapeutic Recreation at the University of Waterloo, Heather began working with children and older adults with disabilities, specifically in the area of increasing active living opportunities. Heather develops and delivers experiential Disability Awareness workshops to people of all ages in schools, businesses and workplaces. This seminar is available for remote participants via webinar (i.e., from a computer, tablet or smartphone). Please choose “Online” at registration. The day before the event, we will send you a confirmation email with the link to join the seminar online. Online registration will close at 12:00 p.m. the day prior to the event.
