Event Description: Presenter: Cynthia Lazar and Elona McGifford, Taylor McCaffrey LLP NOTE: Please feel free to bring a snack or brown bag supper to make the most of this session. Legal tips for entrepreneurs starting new businesses. Presentations by an employment lawyer and corporate/commercial lawyer will cover basics that new business owners need to know. Attendee will learn the following: 1. The differences between employees and independent contractors 2. Important points to cover in employment offers and contracts, and employee policies 3. The pros and cons of different corporate structures Cynthia Lazar has been practicing in all areas of Labour and Employment Law for over 20 years, including the related areas of human rights, privacy and defamation. She also taught the Labour and Employment Relations course at the Asper School of Business for nine semesters. Elona McGifford practices in the area of corporate and commercial law, focusing on preparing wills and assisting clients with real estate and other commercial transactions.
